Building Your List
There are so many different way to build your list that one blog entry isn’t going to do it. We’ll start here with the basics and add more exotic and unusual methods along the way.
In my experience, the best way to get someone to join your list is to offer something of value to that person for free. Usually it’s an eBook that would be of value to someone who would also get value from your product, website or niche.
You can write your own eBook. This won’t even be too difficult if you already know your subject matter well. I’ve seen these free eBooks as short as six pages, but I’d go a bit further than that. You want your readers to recognize the value of your eBook and stay on your list to see what else you’ve got to offer.
If you feel that’s beyond you at this point, there are many Private Label reports you can use as your own. The only problem with these is that you aren’t the only one using them. It’s usually a good idea to use these as a base, but to re-write them in your own words before giving it away. That way you know it’s unique to your visitor and not something he’s seen before.
Here are a couple good PLR resource sites you can check out:
Once you’ve got it written, create a one-page “sales” page for it. Make it simple and short. Add a nice book cover graphic . Of course the eBook is free, but you want to collect names and email addresses in exchange for it. Create the necessary forms that tie to your autoresponder. If you use a service, which I strongly recommend, they will have the processes for creating these forms on their websites. (See blog entry Auto Responder Costs for some price comparisons of good auto responder services.) Just follow the instructions and cut and paste onto your page.
Create a thank-you page where your sign-ups can immediately download their free eBook. You can add other ads to this page, too. Don’t forget the link to your .pdf or zipped pdf file (see blog entry How to Create Free PDF’s) to the thank-you page so your customers will be able to download it automatically 24/7.
Then create some banners, text links, safelist letters, etc., and start promoting your sign-up page. Pretty soon you’ll have a growing mailing list which could mean growing profits when used thoughtfully.
