List Building Techniques 3

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the posts for List Building Primer and List Building 2.  In this post we’ll explore some of the more unusual and little-known techniques you can use to build your list even further.

Amazon Review Videos

Many people know you can write reviews of books that are sold on Amazon, but not everyone knows you can do so on video.  First go to Amazon.com and find a good book solidly in your niche.  Read it.  Then make a video of yourself talking about the book and how valuable it was to you in your business.

How can this help you build your list?  First, you can overlay the URL for your opt-in page right on the video.  Second, at the end of your video review, invite watchers to learn more about your niche topic by visiting your site and signing up for your list.  Thirdly, put your website URL in your Amazon member profile.  That way when people click on your name, that’s where they’ll be taken.

Remember, people visiting Amazon are most likely buyers.  This is exactly the type of list member you want most.

Flyer Marketing

Write up a quick sales-type flyer about your squeeze page giveaway.  Print up a few hundred copies.  Then post it everywhere you can think of – grocery store bulletin boards, malls, shops, utility poles, trees in parks – everywhere.

Take it to the next level by paying someone so much per post to put them up for you.  This way you can not only get them up faster, but you can reach areas you couldn’t get to yourself; perhaps around the world!  This will cost you about 25-50 cents per post, but could reach thousands.  Remember to get proof that the person you hired has actually posted as many as he or she claims.  Requiring pictures is one good way.

JV Swap Advanced

You’ll want to save this one for when your list is getting large; at least 500, but the more the better.

Find a Clickbank product in your niche with a low gravity rating, say 10-30.  Write to the owner saying you’ll mail a sales letter to your list with no affiliate link, just the owner’s own page if, in exchange, the owner will use your freebie’s link on the thank you page.

On top of that you offer to show him how to get a higher gravity rating.  When he agrees you give him the link to CB Centrifuge with instructions to create about 20 affiliate accounts and drop them into the free software obtained there.  This software rotates those affiliate accounts whenever the owner makes a sale.  This, in turn, raises his gravity rating and gets other affiliates working for him.

You’ll get a tremendous boost in your list plus a new joint venture partner who will follow you wherever you go!

Offline/Online Swaps

Find a local brick-and-mortar business with an online presence.  Approach the owners saying you’d like to send the people on your list to their website.  In exchange ask that they put you banner ad on their site for x amount of days.

If they don’t have a website, you could even arrange to create a modest one for them in exchange for them giving away your free eBook complete with your links and opt-in forms to every visitor, physical or cyber, who wants one.

Offline Shows and Presentations

As long as you can truthfully claim expertise in your niche, volunteer to speak at local functions or universities.  Advertise the event.  College students are particularly likely to opt in.

Then tell your audience that to make the best use of the information you’re giving them, they should get your guide.  Point out that the guide is free; all they have to do is register for it.  Using the word “register” will get more sign-ups!

This concludes my posts on building a great list.  Please add your comments on effective ways you’ve found to build your list.
